Two vehicular deaths in Richmond prompt calls for remedial plan

RICHMOND — Rain Hajjar said after she crashed on Route 41 on the evening of July 7, the responding officer told her that someone would need to die before any major changes were made to the dangerous intersection with Dublin Road.

Less than three weeks later, someone did.

Three weeks after that, someone else did, too.

The two deaths occurring within the past month in separate car crashes at the Dublin Road and Route 41 Intersection has now triggered immediate action by the Massachusetts’ Department of Transportation (MassDOT).

Tuesday’s select board meeting was attended by more than 30 people, including State Rep. William “Smitty” Pignatelli, D-Lenox, representatives from MassDOT, Berkshire County District Attorney Andrea Harrington and residents who expressed concern over the safety of the intersection.
