GREAT BARRINGTON – Renowned trail builder and planner Peter Jensen made his return to the Housatonic River Walk over the weekend and led a guided tour highlighted every detail of the painstaking trail blazing process.
Jensen, who is currently involved in a New Hampshire project, made the visit in the lead up to the Great Barrington Land Conservancy’s weekend celebration – the Hullabaloo.
According to him, the Housatonic River Trail was the result of a 1980s environmental renaissance.
“There was a desire to do a cleanup in town,” Jensen said.
At the time, the hillside that the trail is now dug into, built out of and carved around was, essentially, a trash heap.
