Stockbridge’s roundabout plan presented to DOT for discussion

STOCKBRIDGE — After hearing residents’ opinions on a traffic study designed to solve issues with the Main Street corridor, the select board moved to begin discussions with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) on the matter.

Town Administrator Danielle Fillio along with traffic engineer Juliet Locke of Vanesse Hangen Brustlin, will present an informal proposal to MassDOT per the motion unanimously approved 2-0 (Selectman Terry Flynn was absent).ABOUT 40 residents turned out Jan. 7 to voice their opinions on the proposed changes to intersections on Main Street, as well as Main Street itself.

The traffic study proposes a roundabout at the intersection by the Red Lion Inn, and a “T” intersection where Route 102 and Route 7 meet, which is designed to provide better visibility for drivers.

In an ideal world all intersections would meet at a 90-degree angle, Locke said during a walk of Main Street in November.
