Southern district towns favor exploring two districts merger

EGREMONT — Earlier this month, the Berkshire Hills Regional School District invited its neighbors in Southern Berkshire to form a planning committee to explore the possibility of consolidating into a single regional district serving grades 9 through 12.

While Southern Berkshire school committee members are taking time to consider the overture before the July 31 deadline, the district’s five member towns have begun to voice their support of entering a conversation.

The move by Berkshire Hills caused a flurry on local social media, said Egremont Select Board member Mary Brazie.
