Southern District school moves toward district consolidation

EGREMONT — While most Southern Berkshire school committee members stopped short of expressing support for a consolidation with Berkshire Hills Regional School District, all 10 committee members agreed that there’s no reason not to open up a dialogue.

“I don’t like talking,” school committee Vice Chairman Jon Bruno retorted at the committee’s Thursday meeting. “But I like listening.”

School committee chairperson Jane Burke and Southern Berkshire superintendent Beth Regulbuto agreed at the meeting that they will draft a response letter to Berkshire Hills agreeing to join a Regional Planning Board, which will be presented for editing and approval by the school committee at their upcoming July 11 meeting.
