Lower Barnum Street was closed for the winter season and could be closed permanently pending approval.

SHEFFIELD — An unpaved and seasonally unmaintained stretch of road in town has routinely closed for the winter and the Select Board has begun to mull over the possibility of permanently closing the road.

On Nov. 1, Lower Barnum Street was closed to the public until the Spring, due to no winter maintenance planned for the road.

At their Oct. 28 meeting, the Select Board held initial discussions about closing the section of the road that splits off from Barnum Street into a heavily-wooded area with no cell phone reception.

The board unanimously agreed that the Fire Department’s input should and would be taken into account before a final decision is made.
