Public hopes for cannabis regs with start-ups in mind

Residents of Berkshire County see opportunities in the recreational marijuana industry, but are wary of some state regulations that could create obstacles for small business start-ups and farmers.

During a public hearing on the Cannabis Control Commission’s recent draft regulations of adult use recreational marijuana industry at Berkshire Community College, residents from across the county – and beyond – were given the opportunity to voice their concerns and offer opinions on those regulations. Many of the speakers argued for more relaxed regulations in certain areas to help smaller-scale, local businesses and farms better compete with larger-scale operations.

The public hearing featured two members of the CCC’s board, commission chairman Steven J. Hoffman and commission member Kay Doyle, who heard from residents in the first of 10 such hearings taking place across the state before the public comment period ends on Feb. 15.
