Post 340 overcomes slow start for road win

EAST LONGMEADOW — For the first couple innings of its game Tuesday, the Sheffield Post 340 baseball team was just going through the motions. As the temperatures have risen and we reach the dog days of summer, players have to battle not only the fatigue of having played baseball nearly non-stop since April, but how many other places their focus is drawn.

In spite of that, Post 340 hung on to beat East Longmeadow Post 293 5-3. The win is Sheffield’s sixth in a row, improving to 9-1 on the season with about a week left of play.

But early in the ballgame, Sheffield was certainly dealing with some summertime blues.
