EGREMONT — Abutters of the Egremont Country Club have learned that their views and their property values are safe — for now.
A California based-company that was exploring the possibility of a 6-megawatt solar installation on the grounds of the country club officially withdrew from the proposal process Friday afternoon.
While representatives from Horizon Solar had previously talked about placing 10,000 solar panels on 32 acres, Great Barrington Conservation Agent Shep Evans said that at the time that they withdrew from the process, and that no proposal had yet been submitted.
The solar installation drew fire from residents last November and prompted the formation of a citizen’s committee, Keep the Gateway Green, which insisted that the highly-visible entrance to the historic South Egremont Village should be kept clear of industrial development.
