Pipeline protesters takeover Barrington bank

GREAT BARRINGTON – Pipeline protesters, indigenous water protectors and fracked gas opponents spent Monday picketing the town’s TD Bank, calling on the public to divest from the financial institution as a whole.

The demonstration, which swallowed a block of Main Street Oct. 23, was held in solidarity with Divest the Globe, an international movement that aims to draw attention to big banks allegedly – and purposefully – financing pipelines.

The TD Bank protest began at the Southern Berkshire District Court, where protesters gathered following a pretrial hearing for four repeat pipeline alleged trespassers.

“We have to protect Mother Earth,” one protester yelled outside the courthouse.

“Get your money out of fossil fuels,” Steven Botkin, a pipeline protester with the Sugar Shack Alliance, said.
