Monterey pageant queen to compete for Miss’d America title in Atlantic City

(Emily Thurlow) Aaron Johnson of Monterey, also known as “Boxxa Vine.”

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — A Monterey pageant queen will be taking his talents to a competition that promises to be a real drag.

For the last six years, 29-year-old Aaron Johnson has been performing throughout the county and beyond as his drag persona, “Boxxa Vine.” And this Saturday, Sept. 21, he’ll be vying for the crown in the Miss’d America Pageant, which will take place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City. This year’s Miss’d America Pageant is hosted by Carson Kressley, known for his role on the television series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

The event, which is organized by the Greater Atlantic City LGBT, has been raising money and awareness of LGBTQ causes since 1991. To date, Miss’d America has raised more than $400,000, which is dispersed through the Greater Atlantic City LGBT to local charities, according to Richard Helfant, president of the Greater Atlantic City GLBT Alliance and executive producer of the pageant.

“We are so excited to be opening a new chapter in Miss’d America history at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City,” said Helfant in a statement.
