SHEFFIELD — The Monterey Select Board is seeking a decision regarding the future of the Monterey School from the Southern Berkshire Regional School District School Committee.
In a letter to the committee dated July 19, the members of the select board requested that the SBRSD School Committee come forward with its plans for the kindergarten program at the one-room schoolhouse, which has been on hiatus since 2015.
“The Select Board is requesting that, in keeping with the district agreement, the School Committee advise the residents of Monterey whether there will be a kindergarten program offered in the near future,” the letter reads. “If not, we request that the Committee begin the process of notifications, discussions and voting to officially close the school according to the specific guidelines in the regional agreement.”
