Minor crash at high school recalls long-standing concerns for safety

GREAT BARRINGTON — An early morning two-vehicle crash in front of Monument Mountain Regional High School has resurrected past safety discussions surrounding the intersection of the school’s entrance and Route 7.

Last week, a junior operator with a driver’s permit was heading southbound and tried to make a left-hand turn into the entrance of the high school and went into the path of a motor vehicle in the northbound lane, said Great Barrington Police Sgt. Paul Storti. Speed was not a factor, said Storti.

Though investigating police officer, Victor Zucco, described the incident as a minor one, and both parties walked away without injury or a citation, the impact of the crash seems to extend beyond this isolated incident.
