LEE — Special town meeting voters will have the opportunity to decide where future medical marijuana dispensaries will be allowed to operate.
A vote on the bylaw amendment recommended by the planning board is tentatively set to take place sometime in January.
The bylaw has nothing to do with regulating or zoning recreational marijuana facilities in town, something that Planning Board Chairman and Selectman Thomas Wickham has said will be dealt with in the near future. The state’s regulations for recreational marijuana are due out in April 2018.
Following a Dec. 6 public hearing, the planning board voted 4-0 – with one member absent – in favor of an amendment to the town’s bylaw that will permit registered medical marijuana dispensaries in rural business, industrial and Office Park and Light Industrial districts, according to Planning Board Administrative Assistant Jaimy Messana.
