With as much history as there is between the Lee Wildcats and Lenox Millionaires, every meeting is an intense affair. But with the season waning and both sides vying for a spot in the postseason, Monday’s meeting carried an added layer of intrigue.
It was the Millionaires who would come out on top, storming past the Wildcats 45-31 to put themselves in the driver’s seat for a spot in the state tournament led by a stellar 20-point performance from guard Nicole Gamberoni.
In the aftermath of Lee’s 44-39 win over the Millionaires just over a week prior, Lenox coach Mike Nykorchuck pressed his team to take its play up a step further to seize the win.
“I said before the game, ‘we’ve held some teams under 30, let’s see if we can hold this team under 30,’” Nykorchuck. “We were that close.”
