Canna Provisions, located at 220 Housatonic St., Lee, holds its opening ceremony on July 5.

LEE — The marijuana market is about to get more competitive in Berkshire County.

Canna Provisions, located at 220 Housatonic St. in Lee, is holding a grand opening Friday, July 5, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The marijuana enterprise received its final license from the state Cannabis Control Commision in June, said Meg Sanders, CEO of the organization. Canna joins fellow marijuana retailers, Theory Wellness in Great Barrington; Berkshire Roots and Temescal Wellness of Massachusetts in Pittsfield; and Silver Therapeutics in Williamstown.

Sanders and Erik Williams, chief operating officer of Canna, are self-described veterans of the marijuana industry, who have earned their green stripes in Colorado. Sanders helped open one of Colorado’s first dispensaries in 2010 and served as a stakeholder in establishing retail cannabis laws. Williams, a longtime political consultant, served as executive director of the Connecticut nonprofit and public-interest lobby group, National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

For the Lee site, which was previously a used-car dealer Southern States Auto Sales, Sanders and Williams have a new vision for the retail experience.
