Stockbridge retreat Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health was in the national spotlight when its Executive Chef Jeremy Rock Smith went head-to-head against three other competitors on Food Network’s TV show, “Chopped.”

Though originally slated for a Christmas Eve time slot, the Smith’s episode aired on Tuesday night and again on Wednesday morning. Hosted by TV personality Ted Allen, Chopped pits four chefs from all over the country against each other to prepare a three-course meal consisting of an appetizer, entree and dessert. And while each chef must tap into their culinary expertise, there is a catch: contestants must use all the ingredients provided to them. All. Of. Them.

And for Smith, the idea of being on TV for cooking was something he hadn’t immediately acquired a taste for. In fact, he had been approached multiple times by several different food-related programs over the last three years, but turned it down each time.

“I didn’t want to be a part of it,” said Smith. “There’s always that one dude that screws up the apple or something … I didn’t want to be that guy.”
