Hiring, firing of library staff main sticking point in Sheffield charter talks

SHEFFIELD — The select board wants to streamline disciplinary action, and to do so may mean giving much more power to the Town Administrator.

The town held a session Monday night to discuss proposed changes to the town’s charter, recommended by the town’s charter revision committee. The select board had endorsed the changes back in September. Monday’s public meeting was the first of “probably several meetings,” Select Board Chairman David A. Smith Jr. said.

“Probably 90 percent of what the charter review committee brought was accepted by the Board of Selectmen. There are a couple of changes which I’m sure we’ll talk about this evening,” Smith said.
