It had all the makings for a long night on Thursday for the school committees of Southern Berkshire Regional School District and Berkshire Hills Regional School District, as successive and significant meetings about a possible merger were slated to take place.
Southern Berkshire has moved their 7 p.m. school committee meeting up to 5 p.m. in order for a representative to attend Berkshire Hills meeting, which starts at 7 p.m.
Jane Burke, chair of the Southern Berkshire school committee, told the Record she plans to announce a change in the committee’s stance on the issue of consolidation, before personally traveling to Great Barrington from Sheffield to attend Berkshire Hills’ school committee meeting.
“We’re going up there to read them the motion [we will pass],” said Burke.
Burke did not disclose details about the change in the committee’s stance, but said the agenda item will be prioritized at Thursday’s meeting, allowing her and another representative to leave the meeting early.
