Pittsfield man dies at Youth Turkey Hunt Day in Great Barrington

GREAT BARRINGTON— A joint investigation is under way after a 44-year-old Pittsfield man was shot and killed during the annual Youth Turkey Hunt Day.

The man, which police have identified as Christopher Puntin, succumbed to his injuries after sustaining a shotgun wound in a wooded area on Monument Valley Road on Saturday.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the incident was an accident, said Great Barrington Police Chief William Walsh in a statement.

“This is a tragic situation for all,” he said.

Walsh commended the efforts of police officers Sgt. Adam Carlotto and Sgt. Paul Storti in dealing with a difficult situation.
