Great Barrington cracks down on parking

By Christopher McDermott

GREAT BARRINGTON — Effective immediately, overnight on-street parking in Great Barrington will be banned from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. from November 15 to March 30, as approved by a select board vote Monday night. The rule states that violators will be ticketed and vehicles blocking the town’s snow plows will be towed at the owner’s expensive.

From Nov. 1 to Nov. 14, change-of-season warnings will be issued. Signs will be put up at the top of Railroad Street, top of Castle Street, the town hall parking lot and the Mason Library parking lot making clear that these areas are open for parking all year round. Daytime parking is the same year round and will be unaffected by the new policy.

“If there’s no winter storm and you’re on the street after 1 a.m., you’ll get a ticket,” Select Board Chair Stanton said of the new winter policy.
