EGREMONT — Following a two-year hiatus, South Egremont School opened its doors to incoming kindergarten students.
Wednesday marked the first day of school for students in the Southern Berkshire Regional School District (SBRSD), including the enrollment of nine students in the kindergarten program at the two-room schoolhouse built in 1880.
Undermountain Elementary School, New Marlborough Central School, Monterey School and Mount Everett Regional School all started Wednesday in Southern Berkshire.
In Berkshire Hills, Muddy Brook Elementary School, Monument Valley Middle School and Monument Mountain High School started classes on Wednesday as well.
Lee Elementary School and Lee High School also started a new academic year on Wednesday, while Lenox Memorial Middle and High School will begin Thursday, Aug. 29.
Mario Deris, and his wife, Laurie, were among the group of parents dropping their kindergarten students off at their first day of school on Wednesday. Their oldest son, Finn, was part of the last kindergarten class to be held at the school and now, their youngest son, Grayson, is part of the first class in the newly-renovated school house.
