Eagles on comeback trail after finals loss

Last spring, the Mt. Everett softball team saw its season end in the Western Mass. Division IV final at the hands of Turners Falls. In fact, the last four seasons for the Eagles have ended at the hands of the Thunder, twice in the sectional final and twice in the semifinal.

Similarly, the girls’ basketball team saw its season finish in the same spot, losing to Hopkins two weeks ago.

For shortstop Gwen Carpenter, the culmination of the basketball season is not something she’s truly processed yet.

“My softball coach would like me to say (that I’m over the loss),” Carpenter said at the Western Mass. Senior Basketball All-Star Game Friday night. “Probably not, it’s probably going to take a little longer… I still don’t think it’s hit me. I don’t want it to hit me yet.”
