
COOPERSTOWN — With runners on second and third base with one out in the top of the eighth inning, Mt. Everett’s Kolby Bleau looked toward third base to receive the signs from his coach. He acknowledged, then stepped back into the batter’s box, ready.
As the 1-0 pitch came toward the plate, he turned his bat square and Nikos Casivant took off toward home plate and Kenny Zucco took his lead toward third.
Then, contact.
“I just kind of threw the bat at it,” Bleau said afterward. “It was a miracle.”
