SHEFFIELD — In Western Mass. Division IV girls’ basketball, few teams carry the reputations of the Mt. Everett Eagles and the Monson Mustangs in recent seasons. For each of the last five years, at least one of the teams has reached the sectional semifinals, where the Eagles and Mustangs met a season ago.
After Friday’s 55-50 win by Monson Saturday, the sides are anticipating another pair of deep runs into the postseason.
With dynamic offensive weapons on each side, one would expect a matchup between the Eagles and Mustangs to hinge on if the Mt. Everett backcourt or Monson frontcourt could assert its will more.
However, Friday’s tilt was more dependent on who could stay on the floor longer.
