When Mt. Everett lost to Monson in December, coach Scott Rote said that Mustangs coach Tim Pascale had a message for him in the handshake line following the game.
“Their coach came through the line and said, ‘I hope to see you somewhere different at the end of the season,’” Rote relayed after his team’s 56-50 loss. “I said, “I want to see you again, too.’ So we’ll see.”
Monday, the two coaches got their wish in the Division IV West quarterfinals. With Rote in his final season at the helm of the Eagles and the outgoing senior class winless against the Mustangs, it was their last chance to get the monkey off their back.
With the help of a strong first quarter, they did just that.
The Eagles advanced to the sectional final with a 61-50 win at Curry Hicks Cage over the team that stopped them there last season in Monson, led by 20 points from Makenzie Ullrich, who nailed five 3-pointers.
