Delinquent taxes, transparency on Sheffield town meeting agenda

SHEFFIELD — A special town meeting that was to be held on May 30, Thursday, will give voters the chance to decide on a local excise tax, a senior workoff program, funding for the transfer station and establish a contract with a recycling facility in Springfield.

The 6- percent room occupancy excise tax that appears on the warrant was passed over at the annual town meeting because the article language did not include short-term rentals in the tax, said Sheffield Town Administrator Rhonda LaBombard at the regular select board meeting last week.

Now that the language has been redrafted with the help of town counsel, residents will finally get the chance to vote on it, she added.
