Collingwood, Mitsoff seek Sheffield select board seat

By Hannah Shirley

SHEFFIELD — So far, two people have filed papers to run for Dave Smith’s soon-to-be-vacant select board seat.

Martin Mitsoff, a Bushnell Sage Library trustee, Board of Health and Conservation Committee member and volunteer firefighter will run against native son James Collingwood Jr., chairman of the Sheffield Planning Board and co-owner of Daley and Sons Trucking.

The deadline to file election papers is 5 p.m. March 25. After that, candidates will have until April 10 to withdraw their name. Prospective candidates have until March 22 to obtain papers.

Mitsoff, an independent investment consultant who relocated to Sheffield from the District of Columbia 11 years ago, said he decided to run for the select board because of a need he sees for increased transparency and a willingness to buckle down and get things done.
