GREAT BARRINGTON — With local collegiate scouts on hand and the stands full with fans, the Monument Mountain and Taconic boys’ basketball teams took the floor Monday night in a battle for supremacy in Berkshire County. While the Braves are coming off back to back appearances in the state championship game in Division II, the Spartans have been stellar through the opening portion of this season and are hoping to embark on a deep postseason run of their own come March.

The Braves proved they’re still the team to beat in Berkshire County, defeating the Spartans 70-64 behind a 27-point performance from senior center Mohammed Sanogo. Monument’s Dion Brown scored a game-high 34 points in the loss.

The teams opened the game trading baskets, but soon settled into a game seemingly controlled by a tether, keeping the game within a 10-point margin for most of the night.

Unfortunately for Monument, most of that range was on the Taconic side of the scoreboard.
