During Berkshires visit, U.S. Sen. Ed Markey talks opioid crisis, environment and immigration

PITTSFIELD — A considerable crowd of Berkshire County residents raised concerns over climate change, taxes, the opioid crisis and immigration during U.S. Sen. Edward Markey’s town hall meeting last Sunday.

Markey, D-Massachusetts, spoke to many of the concerns raised by those in attendance as well as other topics such as gun control and North Korea, all while expressing his well-established opposition to President Donald Trump and his administration.

Barrington Stage Company hosted the well-attended town hall, one of many the senator has been holding across the state this year.

Following a short introduction by state Sen. Adam Hinds, D-Pittsfield, and Pittsfield Mayor Linda Tyer, Markey took the stage. He was joined briefly by Hinds and Tyer as well as North Adams Mayor Richard Alcombright and Bekrshire County Sheriff Thomas Bowler before addressing the crowd.
