Barrington selectmen urged not to reappoint Karen Smith

GREAT BARRINGTON — Allegations of bullying were brought forward against the chairperson of a town commission. And this isn’t the first time complaints have come forward against the individual.

At a recent selectboard meeting, members of the board reappointed a number of individuals to town committees and boards as part of a yearly routine without discussion.

When it came time for Great Barrington Town Manager Mark Pruhenski to make his reappointments, however, Holly Hamer stepped forward urging him against one of the reappointments.

As Hamer, who serves as chair of the Great Barrington Tree Committee and as a volunteer for the Friends of the Great Barrington Libraries, stood at the podium, selectboard Chairman Stephen Bannon said that he would prefer that she did not read the letter she’d sent to board members prior to the meeting.
