GREAT BARRINGTON — The Town Hall green will be the site of a pair of annual galas in August for the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center and Fairview Hospital after the Parks and Recreation Commission approved two park usage requests for the two events at its meeting on Monday, March 9.
Event planner Amy Rudnick appeared before the commission to represent the hospital and the Mahaiwe applications, which will see a tent set up in Town Hall park on Friday, July 31 for the Mahaiwe Annual Gala the following evening.
The tent would then be taken down on Monday, Aug. 3.
For the Fairview Hospital Annual Gala, the tent would be set up on Friday, Aug. 28 and removed Monday, Aug. 31, two days after the hospital’s gala.
During the commission’s meeting, Rudnick raised concerns about the galas conflicting with the weekly David Grover concerts that take place on Saturday mornings at the Great Barrington Bandstand during the summer.
Rudnick noted that with ongoing construction at Giggle Park creating a grading issue, that the tent could be closer than usual to the gazebo where Grover plays as the gala is being set up. She said she was concerned that children attending the concert could crawl under the tent while the gala was being prepared.
