Bard Academy student pursues passion for rural transportation

(Hannah Shirley) Tate Coleman’s interest in public transportation stems from a passion for environmentalism, leading him to a position on the Great Barrington Transportation Advisory Committee.

GREAT BARRINGTON — Fifteen-year-old Tate Coleman has been fascinated by mass transit since he was a first-grader who regularly rode the New York subway with his family.

When his family packed their bags and moved to Great Barrington five years ago, Coleman found a much different transportation situation than he was used to in New York, he said.

“Mass transit is… well, it’s available,” Coleman said. “But you wouldn’t find out about it by walking down the street.”
