Alford officials debate plan to buy land near Town Hall

Alford is exploring the possibility of purchasing the house at 7 Alford Center Road. (Ted Remsnyder)

ALFORD – Residents are set to head to the polls to decide if the town should purchase property located directly next to the Town Hall.

The property is the last piece of available land in the center of town, and could be utilized as town offices if the town decides to expand its office space in the future.

The Alford Select Board and the town’s Historic District Commission held a pair of informational meetings on Wednesday, Jan. 15 and Saturday, Jan. 18 to discuss the potential purchase of the home located at 7 Alford Center Road for town use.

Taxpayers will ultimately decide the matter, as a public vote on the possible transaction will be held at the Alford Town Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. Under town law, a two-thirds majority vote is needed to approve the sale of the property.
