AG and Berkshire Museum collaborating for resolution

PITTSFIELD — With her office’s investigation due out on Feb. 4, in a surprise move, Attorney General Maura Healey and the Berkshire Museum released a joint status report indicating that the two will be working together for a resolution.

In a joint statement released on Monday, the Berkshire Museum and the Attorney General said, “We are working together to resolve this matter, recognizing our shared responsibility for the collection of the Berkshire Museum and to the community the museum serves. We are committed to helping this museum secure its future.”

The museum has agreed to hold off on selling “any of the 40 works until the [Supreme Judicial Court] acts on the petition or until the Berkshire County Superior Court enters final judgment regarding the AGO’s complaint…”

If the court rules in favor of the museum, however, things may not be over for the attorney general. The joint status report contains a provision “allowing, if the Museum should prevail, for seven calendar days post-judgment for the AGO to seek further relief pending appeal.”
