$20,000 to be put towards Southern Berkshire tennis courts

SHEFFIELD — The tennis courts at Mount Everett Regional High School are on their way to receiving much-needed reconstruction following the Southern Berkshire Regional School District’s reception of a $20,000 grant from the United States Tennis Association.

The courts are at least 25 years old by now and may soon become unusable due to cracks in the asphalt, according to MERHS science teacher and tennis coach Asha Von Ruden.

“The courts are starting to get dangerous to play on,” Von Ruden said.

The Western Mass division of USTA New England awarded the grant to the district on Oct. 18. Von Ruden partnered with SBRSD Superintendent Beth Regulbuto and Business Administrator Christine Regan to write the grant application.
