Wildcats end season with big win

SPRINGFIELD — Few teams across the state have been as hot as the Lee girls’ lacrosse team over the past few weeks. Having had their five-game win streak snapped about a week ago, the Wildcats were left to wait for one final opportunity to take the field as presently constructed. With nothing to play for but pride, Lee was able to leave the field victorious one final time.

The Wildcats ended their season with a 17-9 victory over the Pope Francis Cardinals, their sixth win in their final seven games after a sluggish beginning to their campaign. An overtime loss to Belchertown last week is the only blemish on the stretch run, but is ultimately the game that cost them a tournament appearance.

“It’s a tough way to end the season because we’re on such a high note and we have been for a while,” coach Dave Galisa said. “But hopefully some of the newer kids will pick that up and say, ‘hey, next year we’ve got to start sooner. Don’t run out of season.’”
