SHEFFIELD — Veronica Johnston has worked with kids for years. In her native Peru, she taught English to young children. Later, she worked as an au pair in Germany and Austria.

But it wasn’t until she moved to the Berkshires that she realized that work was her calling.

More than a decade after she moved to her husband’s hometown of Sheffield and six years after opening the only multilingual daycare in Berkshire County, Veronica’s Bilingual Daycare is at capacity and eyeing expansion.

“My vision was just that I wanted the children to be exposed to the language,” she said. “We grow like a family, and we are a family, but the vision has changed now. We’d like to maybe expand, to make it bigger. There are a lot of people in this community and a lot of them are in need of childcare.”
