Vermeulen throws hat in ring for Egremont selectmen seat

(Hannah Shirley) Egremont Planning Board.

EGREMONT — Lucinda Vermeulen, who has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Board of Selectmen, prefers to call Egremont “strong and beautiful” as opposed to “small and beautiful.”

“I still want it to be small,” she clarified. “But I want it to be vital, and to have more than what we offer right now. I don’t want it to be a drive through town.”

Vermeulen, owner of Kenver Ski Shop and currently the chair of the Planning Board, is the second person to announce their candidacy for select board, and will run against local business person Carla Turner for Bruce Turner’s seat.

Vermeulen said she never wanted to run against an incumbent, but with Bruce Turner stepping down and her own three-year term on the Planning Board coming to an end, she said the time was right.
