STOCKBRIDGE — Two candidates appeared before the select board Monday evening to vie for the open position of interim town administrator.

Mark Webber, the former town administrator of West Stockbridge, and Robert Markel, most recently the interim town administrator of Richmond, each said they are eyeing the Stockbridge interim position as a way to ease into retirement after a long career.

Select board members indicated that the search for a permanent town administrator is expected to take about six to nine months, and they hope to make an interim appointment at their upcoming meeting, Thursday, July 25 at 6:30 p.m.

The position was vacated earlier this month when former town administrator Danielle Fillio accepted the town administrator position in Richmond. Fillio was two-and-a-half years into her three-year contract as town administrator in Stockbridge. Prior to this role, she served as Stockbridge’s assistant town administrator for nine years. Fillio stepped as interim town administrator following the retirement of Jorja-Ann Marsden, who had been in the post since 1996.
