Route 57 culverts in line for repair study, future funding

MILL RIVER — Before road conditions improve along Route 57 in Berkshire County, the state is conducting an analysis of the existing culverts that local highway department officials have long been wanting to repair.

Last year, state Rep. William “Smitty” Pignatelli, D-Lenox, secured $5 million to repair culverts along the state route as part of a bond bill signed by Gov. Charlie Baker. While Route 57, which runs through Monterey, New Marlborough and Sandisfield, has yet to see any repairs, the groundwork has been laid out for a future fix along the state road, said Pignatelli.

New Marlborough and Sandisfield filed a joint grant application made by to the state’s MassWorks Infrastructure Program for work on Route 57 and Pignatelli said he “feels very optimistic” that the two towns will be successful in securing their grant application for roughly
