RICHMOND — A winery that traded its urban setting for a more rural one has finally settled into its new space in Richmond.
Founded in 2011, Balderdash Cellars is a winery that first called the basement of a Pittsfield-based bakery its home.
But even prior to establishing Balderdash as a formal business, making wine was a pastime for Christian Hanson. He dabbled in beer at first and then decided to give wine-making a go. From there, Hanson’s efforts started to swell over into the garage. He and his wife, Donna, would invite neighbors over to sample his work in their Pittsfield driveway. Hanson even took over Donna’s parking spot, which he swore he’d give back … eventually.
