MILL RIVER — The town’s Select Board approved a pair of contracts with the Springfield Materials Recycling Facility during its meeting this week.

As a result of the new agreement, the town’s recycled waste will be hauled to Springfield starting July 1.

The town expects to see slight recycling savings as part of the deal as the projected cost of entering a deal with Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) for a single-stream recycling program would cost the town $58,932 in 2020, as opposed to $60,708 without the MRF deal.

New Marlborough Town Administrator Mari Enoch stressed that those projections are based on last year’s exact recycling figures, so the actual 2020 numbers will eventually change based on the number of recycling hauls needed this year.
