Mother uses billboard to find former school abused students

GREAT BARRINGTON— A billboard on State Road  across from Plaza Package askes the question, “Did something happen to you in the janitor’s room at Sheffield Center School?”

The mother of a man who was a student at the Sheffield Center School back in the 1970s leased the billboard for $2300 a month at least until mid-February.

A second billboard asking the same question will be posted on Route 7 farther north next month.

The Sheffield Center School closed in 1993 and has since been used as the town library. “It was just startling. What the heck is that? Kind of weird seeing it,” said Paul Hankey, a former student at the Sheffield Center School. Hankey reportedly attended the school during a similar time the alleged incident took place.

According to the Sheffield Police Chief, Eric Munson, the allegations came to the attention of his department  in 2016.

The man who is the alleged victim of the incident pieced together his memories of what happened and brought his case to the police.
