WOODFORD, Vt. — For anyone watching the girls’ state Nordic skiing championship Tuesday afternoon, it was clear who had taken home the top prize.

That is, except for those who were informed of their times.

“I know that we all work hard and that we’re all good at skiing,” Lenox’s Aidan Burns said. “But it was definitely a huge surprise to know that we all had amazing races and that we all did so well.”

Burns led a group of four Millionaires who finished in the top seven places, giving Lenox its first girls’ state championship in Nordic since 2007. Just 43 seconds separated Burns, Mary Elliot (4), Ava Bachman (5) and Grace Elliot (7), giving Lenox a total of 19 points, well ahead of second place Mt. Greylock, who finished with 47.

In addition, Lenox was the only school with three or more finishers within the top 10 and Greylock was the only other team to claim two of the top 10 spots.
