BOARD OF SELECTMEN

SHEFFIELD,
MASSACHUSETTS

BRIDGE REPAIRS

Bridge No. S-10-010 (52A) Carrying County Road over
Ironwork Brook

The Town of Sheffield, Massachusetts, acting through its
Board of Selectmen, will accept sealed bids from qualified contractors for the
repair of bridge No. S-10-010 (52A) carrying County Road over Ironwork Brook, in the
Town of Sheffield, Massachusetts. The proposal must be filled out and signed as
directed therein. The sealed bids shall be clearly marked “County Road Bridge
Repair”.

     The estimated
project value is $585,000.

     The bid deadline
is June 18, 2019 at 11 a.m., local time. At this time the bids will be publicly
opened and read aloud in the Selectmen’ s Office, located at 21 Depot Square
Sheffield, MA 01257.

     Bidders must be
pre-qualified by MassDOT in the bridge-construction category to bid on the
above project. An award will not be made to a contractor who is not
pre-qualified by MassDOT prior to the opening of proposals.

     All pre-bid
questions concerning the contract documents and the work contained therein
should be emailed to mmorrison@bscgroup.com and rlabombard@sheffieldma.gov no
later than 11 a.m. on the Thursday before the scheduled bid opening date.

     All work shall be
in conformance with the 1988 Massachusetts Department of Transportation
Standard Specifications for Highways and Bridges as amended.

     The scope of work
for the bridge repairs includes the installation of erosion and sediment
control, temporary traffic controls, reinforced concrete excavation of the
existing bridge superstructure and substructure per contract plans,
installation substructure modifications, placement of scour protective including
rock fill in the stream channel covered with six inches of natural streambed
material, concrete curtain wall, reconstruction of wing walls, deck and
abutments, bridge rail, full depth reconstruction along the approach roadway,
installation of guardrail and other incidental work.

     Bid Security in
the form of a bid bond, cash, certified check, treasurer’s or cashier’s check
payable to the Town of Sheffield,
is required in the amount of five percent of the bid, in accordance with
Section 00200, Instructions to Bidders. The selected contractor shall furnish a
performance bond and a payment bond in the amount at least equal to one hundred
percent (100 percent) of the contract price as stipulated in Section 00520
construction contract of these specifications. A 100 percent performance bond
will be required of the successful bidder within (10) days following the notice
of award. This check will be the property of the Town of Sheffield if the
successful bidder fails to execute the contract and satisfactory bond within
ten (10) days after the contract may have been awarded to him.

     The Instructions
to Bidders, Form of General Bid, Agreement, Plans, Specifications, Performance
and Payment Bond, and other Contract Documents may be obtained through emailing
the Assistant to the Town Administrator, Jill Hughes [jhughes@sheffieldma.gov]
during normal business hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 4
p.m.

     Attention is
called to the fact that State Prevailing Wage Rates are established for the
project as set forth in the contract documents.

     The bidder agrees
that this bid shall be good and may not be withdrawn for a period of 30 working
days, Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays excluded after the opening of bids.

     The Town reserves
the right to waive any informalities, to accept or reject, in whole or in part
any or all bids, or take whatever other action may be deemed to be in the best
interest of the Town.

     The Town of

Notice of Public Hearing

The Sheffield
Conservation Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, June 10 at 7p.m.,
1st floor meeting room, Town Hall, 21 Depot Square, regarding a Request for
Determination of Applicability, filed by Butternut Tree and Land Care Inc. for
property located at 85 Glenanna Way in Sheffield, in accordance with the
provisions of M.G.L. Chapter 131, sec. 40. The purpose of the hearing is to
gather information regarding the proposed project: The removal of trees and
brush for solar gain after installation of roof mounted solar system.

     The intention of the applicant will be discussed in
compliance with the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act.
