EGREMONT — At this week’s select board meeting, sitting in the audience, was Kenneth Knox, the newly elected chairman of the Southern Berkshire Regional School District School Committee.
He came to say that extending an olive branch of good faith would be the best move for both the select board and the school committee.
Perhaps moved by Knox’s presence and remarks, the select board then unanimously voted to pay the school district the $382,000 assessment that the town has withheld once the legal agreement is finalized and the lead remediation in the Egremont School is complete.
“Congratulations, Ken,” said Mary Brazie, a select board member and town office administrator, from the front. Knox then stepped forward. “Consider me introduced,” Knox said, with a smile. “Maybe you could change the relationship we have,” said Bruce Turner, board chairman. “I certainly hope so,” said Knox.
