GREAT BARRINGTON — After advertising locally as well as with the Massachusetts Town Clerks Association and the Massachusetts Municipal Association, the town has named a new clerk.
Jennifer Messina, who has been employed by the town since 2008, was appointed to the position of town clerk last week. She will begin full-time on Monday, Aug. 19.
Great Barrington Town Manager Mark Pruhenski selected Messina from a pool of 14 applicants. All but one candidate resided in Berkshire County.
“We had an excellent pool of candidates, but in the end, Jenn was the best fit for the position,” said Pruhenski. “Jenn has more than 10 years of municipal experience. She’s a quick learner and knows most of the people in Town Hall already.”
With the transition in mind, Pruhenski said he took that opportunity to check off another concern on a list of priorities identified by the selectboard at a meeting earlier in the year. On Monday, the offices of town clerk and principal assessor were switched around.
