GREAT BARRINGTON — Times are changing and the role of long-established institutions are, too. In this town, the library system is following suit.
In response to patron requests for increased lending resources, creative programming and a community gathering space, Great Barrington Libraries is planning to launch a unique lending program at the beginning next year.
The program, “Library of Things,” will begin at Ramsdell Library in January 2020.
With the program, patrons will be able to browse online for “things” in the library as well as on the website in the same manner they would as searching for books, said Great Barrington Libraries Director Amanda DeGeorgis.
“The Library of Things will include tools, materials, creative kits and more – all of which will be available to borrow, just like books,” she said. “We are also going to be adding creative programs and workshops, without charge, and we will encourage community members to lead programs.”
