GREAT BARRINGTON — Local freelancers and consultants fed up with working out of bustling coffee shops have a new option here as the town’s first coworking space is set to open next month.

Established by co-founders Kendra Smallwood and Emma Blair, the membership-only, “Coworking GB”, is housed on the second floor of the distinctive blue building on 406 Main St. The coworking business shares the space with Berkshire County Kids’ Place, which has its own separate offices.

According to Smallwood, the shared working space business is slated to open on Sunday, March 15. Both business owners hope that Coworking GB has a minimum of seven to eight initial members.

The business is currently accepting applications for membership. The space would ideally accommodate 10 to 15 members, said Smallwood. Membership fees will run $300 per month. Coworking GB is requiring that members sign a three-month commitment up front, with month-by-month fees due after that initial period.

The co-founders, both South Egremont residents, will be working out of the space alongside the business’ members. The site will cater to freelancers and consultants interested in working in a communal office environment, said Smallwood.
